Hikers on stone tread |
The trail building workshop led by Garnet McLaughlin and his trail team will be held THIS COMING WEEKEND ON SATURDAY MAY 28.
Come to the parking lot (2890 St. Margaret's Bay Road) at 9 am on Saturday MAY 28. The team will leave for the trail at 9:30 pm but allow yourself time to find a place to park and introduce yourself to Garnet.
This event is all day. We supply the tools necessary. You will learn from the leading trail builder in the province how volunteers without machines can create durable, environmentally friendly, low cost stone tread in areas that are being damaged by high use. Garnet will have expert trail instructors with him. About a dozen places have been identified on the first loop that need treatment. Bring a lunch, rain gear, bug repellent, gloves, and plenty of water. Volunteers are urgently needed. We are told once you do this work, you will find it so satisfying, so much fun, that you will want to do it again and again. And there will be more opportunities. Have a blast!
If you want more information about the workshop, contact Garnet McLaughlin at mclaughlins@vrodinternet@com or 902-647-2271
The second event is International Trails Day on Saturday June 4. We have no scheduled hike planned because most folks know the trail well and go by themselves. But as a member you can support that trail by having a large, small, or any size hike on The Bluff Trail on that day. Volunteers from WRWEO will be at the trailhead all day to sign up new members (only $10), sell our new waterproof map at $5 to support trail maintenance, talk to you about trail (pros, cons, events, protection, whatever), and THERE WILL BE A DRAW for all members new and old just for showing up with a $25 prize, See you on Trails Day June 4. Bring friends.
